Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, many organisations and sectors have experienced pressure from increasing instances of cybersecurity issues.
During 2020, many key industries have experienced significant levels of cyberattacks according to a recent report from IBM security systems.
The report highlights while the finance and insurance sector were the greatest targets, there was an almost 50% increase in attacks made on organisations in the manufacturing and energy sector.
Unsurprisingly, the report highlights that ransomware attacks were up about 35% and predicts that with the rise of open-source malware this is set to rise further and may increase the scale of attacks in the future,
Given the proliferation of cybersecurity issues, it’s time that both industry and government seek to re-assess and review a different approach – perhaps considering education programmes into curricula that helps dissuade younger people from pursuing involvement in the development and use of malware or virus software.
